Eberechi Eze was the talk of Arsenal this weekend as his stunning goal saw off Newcastle United to put the Gunners back on top.
Eze struck early on at The Emirates in what was another uninspiring performance by Mikel Arteta’s side.
In the end, the job was done but it wasn’t without nervy moments.
However, speaking after the game, Eze admitted to Sky he was not feeling the nerves and simply loved playing football. And this, according to Gary Lineker, is exactly what Arsenal need right now.
Prediction time: What will the score be when Arsenal take on Atletico Madrid in the first-leg?
Arsenal told to let Eberechi Eze do his thing in the final few weeks of the season
Speaking on the Rest Is Football, Lineker spoke highly of Eze and suggested that Arsenal should just let him lead the way.
“He looks like, and I saw him in his post-match interview and he’s so relaxed. And you just think to yourself, maybe put him in charge of this, what’s going on at the end of this season. Because he’s, you know, you know, he just, he said, no, I’m not nervous, I just love playing football, it’s great, you want to be in this position,” Lineker said.
“Absolutely the right attitude. I mean, it’s easy to have that attitude when you’ve just bent one in the top corner and a hugely important goal. But I see it, I get that, that’s how they should be.”

Adding further comment on Eze, Alan Shearer then suggested the rest of Arsenal’s squad should take something from him.
“If only the rest of his teammates felt like that because there’s no way they’re feeling as relaxed as he is because they were there for the taking yesterday, they were there for the taking, Newcastle should have got something out of that game.”
What Eberechi Eze actually said after the win over Newcastle
Eze’s interview with Sky Sports after the game was very telling and was the interview of a man clearly at ease with being in a key role for the Gunners.
The former Palace man was as cool as they come and admitted that he is loving competing for trophies.
“Honestly, I’m enjoying playing for things at this point in the season,” Eze commented.
“It’s where you want to be and it is honestly what we’ve been planning and working on from the start of the season. So to be here now is special.”
Clearly, that relaxed attitude and embracing what is in front of them is what Arsenal need right now.
They cannot be nervous or they will end up dropping points. It’s that simple.
Eze, then, can be the shining light for this Gunners side.
