Mikel Merino and Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal in the summer.

The Gunners had a fairly successful transfer window in August. Riccardo Calafiori was probably the most exciting signing, but Sterling and Merino are excellent players on their day too.

Both players knew people in the Arsenal squad already. Sterling had his England mates at the Emirates, while Merino knew the likes of David Raya and Martin Odegaard beforehand.

The two stars have now revealed who they think is the funniest member of the squad.

Raheem Sterling and Mikel Merino explain why Oleksandr Zinchenko is Arsenal’s funniest player

Oleksandr Zinchenko is one of the most popular members of Arsenal’s squad.

The Ukraine international joined the Gunners in the summer of 2022 from Manchester City. He played a big part in helping them become title contenders in that campaign.

Zinchenko’s value to Arsenal’s squad is his leadership and experience, but he is also a great character to have around the dressing room.

Several players at the club have often lauded Zinchenko’s personality. He has also been hailed as the funniest player at the club by many.

Sterling and Merino have now jumped on that bandwagon.

In a video released by Arsenal, when asked who the funniest player in the squad is, Sterling said: “Zinchenko, because he just doesn’t stop talking.”

Merino added: “Oh Zinchenko, I don’t know why (he’s the funniest). He’s just so crazy, so funny.”

Kai Havertz and Declan Rice also named Zinchenko as the funniest player at Arsenal, but Leandro Trossard and Kieran Tierney had different answers – watch what they said below!

Zinchenko’s future at Arsenal could be over

Zinchenko became Arsenal’s undisputed first-choice left-back when he joined the club in 2022, and his early performances were brilliant.

However, the Ukrainian has fallen down the pecking order now.

Riccardo Calafiori is ahead of Zinchenko, while the likes of Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and even Myles Lewis-Skelly have fared better than him when they are fit.

Zinchenko will enter the final year of his contract at the end of this season, and there has been no indication that Arsenal will offer him an extension.

We expect Zinchenko to be sold by Arsenal in the summer of 2025.
