Arsenal surprised everyone on Saturday when the players walked out wearing red on red instead of the famous red and white.
The Gunners played away from home and since the Hornets’ home colours are yellow, our away kit wasn’t an option on the day. Many expected to either see our traditional home attire or our blue third kit, but it was neither.
Arsenal came out wearing our red home shirt and paired it up with red shorts. Wondering why? Here’s the answer!
Why Arsenal wore red shorts against Watford
Arsenal fans were really confused to see our stars walk out wearing red shorts instead of our white ones. The reason for this is our kit partner, Adidas.
Football London claim today that the reason behind Arsenal’s red shorts was a commercial decision by the German clothing brand.
At the start of the season, Adidas made a small number of red shorts available for sale. That was quickly discontinued but with the Gunners wearing that on Saturday, we can expect them to be back in stock in the very near future.
The Insider’s View:
It really did look odd when we first saw the lads wearing red on red. However, we must admit that as the game went on, the colour combination really grew on us.
Perhaps, we would’ve hated the colours if Watford beat us on Saturday. Thankfully, they didn’t and we’re now stuck with a dilemma if we should use this more often in certain away games.
The big winner here, however, is Adidas. They will surely try out more red on red options in the coming months and after how good it looked on Saturday, don’t be surprised to see them all sold out right after they’re released.
