Arsenal have released an official statement confirming they have reached an agreement with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard.
They also state that a further update will follow once the transfer is completed.
Besiktas have since released a video of Trossard wearing their shirt, performing his trademark binocular celebration and saying “I’m coming to Besiktas”.
That effectively confirms the deal then.
Among those to react was his teammate Riccardo Calafiori, who posted two pictures on his Instagram story of the pair celebrating together on the pitch, with the simple caption “Going to miss it” and a heart emoji.
Calafiori and Trossard developed a great partnership down Arsenal’s left flank over the past two seasons.
Calafiori’s ability to carry the ball forward from left-back and his unpredictable movement in the final third helped Trossard find pockets of space.
It was a highly effective connection, particularly during the crucial run-in, and it’s a shame injuries to Calafiori at various points prevented fans from seeing more of it.
Leandro Trossard leaves Arsenal as a cult hero
Trossard departs the Emirates as a fan favourite and goes down as a huge part of the title-winning side.
His winning goal at West Ham in May was the moment many Arsenal fans truly believed the Premier League title was coming back to north London for the first time in 22 years.
If Leandro Trossard isn’t Arsenal’s most clutch player, who is? 🤔
Signed for a modest £27million from Brighton, he delivered big goals in big moments consistently, and is one of Mikel Arteta’s very best signings.
Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis may well come in as his replacement, with a £35million deal being mulled over.
But for whoever comes in, there is every chance they will not be able to replicate Trossard’s impact.
Arsenal are also pursuing Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola as more established options on the left, but those deals remain complex.
Trossard was a wonderful signing. On his day, a wonderful player. He deserves every bit of the send-off he is getting.
