Arsenal fans will be fearing that this season could follow the same disappointing pattern as the last three campaigns.
Mikel Arteta was conservative with his team selection in choosing a midfield three consisting of Mikel Merino in front of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi and it backfired.
A late free kick from Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai was the difference in a tight, cagey affair and the Gunners have already slipped behind their title rivals.
William Saliba will miss international duty with France after picking up an early injury in the match and supporters will now be furious that yet more refereeing decisions are going against Arsenal after what Richard Keys has just spotted.

Richard Keys highlights Liverpool player in Arsenal wall during Dominik Szoboszlai winner
The PGMOL have already made their stance clear on interference with the defensive wall this season in an incident involving Arsenal’s very own Eberechi Eze.
Eze saw a goal disallowed at Stamford Bridge for teammate Marc Guehi being within a metre of Chelsea’s wall at the free kick.
Taking to social media, Keys has highlighted the exact same infringement from Liverpool duo Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz during the defining moment of the contest.
Taking nothing away from Szoboszlai’s strike, Arsenal will feel that consistency has failed to be shown from the referee once again in the league.
Arsenal blamed two reasons for not winning the league last season and both are already rearing their heads once again at the start of this campaign.
Arsenal have two penalty shouts turned away in Anfield defeat
The injury to Saliba adds to the absences of Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz with the Gunners already facing an injury pile-up at the start of the season.
Arsenal will also feel hard done by on a couple of penalty shouts during the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool. Mark Clattenburg was strong on Jurrien Timber’s appeal during the first half claiming there wasn’t enough contact to go down.
However, with Arsenal chasing the game in stoppage time, a long throw from Riccardo Calafiori appeared to strike the upper arm of Szoboszlai but it was deemed accidental after a VAR review.
These decisions can make all the difference in a tight title race and Arteta will be hoping these are not defining moments in the race already for his side.
