Rio Ferdinand has issued a surprising UEFA Champions League prediction for Arsenal heading into tonight’s clash against FC Porto.

The Gunners are flying in the Premier League having won their last five games and scoring an incredible 21 goals and conceding just two, with Arsenal now two points off leaders Liverpool.

And Ferdinand has now made an interesting claim about Arsenal ahead of their Champions League return tonight, with the pundit in hot water with supporters over recent comments on Bukayo Saka.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the former Manchester United defender predicted Arsenal to go a long way in the Champions League, with Ferdinand saying only Manchester City and Real Madrid could stop the Gunners.

Having recently been mocked by Arsenal fans on the flight to Porto, Ferdinand’s prediction might come as a surprise for some supporters, who said Saka isn’t a ‘world-class’ player.

Ferdinand said when asked about Arsenal’s prospects in the Champions League this season: “I think they can go a long way in this tournament.

“As long as they stay away from Man City and Real Madrid until maybe the semis or finals, I think they can get that far. They’ve got nothing to fear outside those two.”

Arsenal’s form has never been better this season, with the Gunners scoring goals for fun whilst not allowing any team come within touching distance of their box.

It’s a great time to be an Arsenal fan, and heading into tonight’s Champions League clash, there’s a sense of quite optimism in the air surrounding the competition.

If Arsenal can comfortably progress against Porto, there’s no reason why the north London side can’t go the distance this season in Europe, an achievement that would be historic for the north London side.
