There may not be a summer signing in the Premier League who arrives with more pressure on his shoulders than Viktor Gyokeres.

Indeed, Arsenal have been searching for a new striker for years, and after a long time of searching, the Gunners have signed Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has taken the number 14 at Arsenal, adding even more pressure to succeed as he’s taken Thierry Henry’s number.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Robbie Fowler has been discussing Arsenal’s chances in the Premier League this season, and he says he already has one key concern about Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal.

Robbie Fowler has a Viktor Gyokeres concern

Fowler says he’s worried about Gyokeres at Arsenal for one key reason.

According to the pundit, he’s concerned about Gyokeres due to the fact this situation reminds him a lot of Darwin Nunez’s arrival at Liverpool.

Nunez also arrived in England after starring in Portugal, but, sadly, things didn’t quite work out for the Uruguayan at Liverpool and he has since been sold to Al-Hilal.

“I think they will be there or thereabouts, but the thing that worries me with Gyokeres is that he probably comes to the Premier League with the same mentality and ideas that Liverpool fans thought when they signed Nunez. He’s been in Portugal scoring goals for fun, he comes over here and he’s not that player. It’s similar to what Liverpool’s ideas and opinions were of Nunez,” Fowler said.

Viktor Gyokeres compared to Darwin Nunez

Fowler says he’s concerned about Gyokeres due to the fact Darwin Nunez flopped in England, and he is right to have that concern.

Indeed, when you look at the numbers Nunez put up in Portugal, it’s clear to see things didn’t translate over to English football.

Of course, Gyokeres’ stats in Portugal are much better than Nunez’s, but Nunez isn’t the only example of a Portuguese League star flopping in England.

Cast your mind back 20 years or so and you may remember Mario Jardel arriving at Bolton Wanderers after being the most prolific goalscorer in Europe during his time in Portugal, and things didn’t work out on that front either.

Gyokeres’ lack of experience at the top level is a concern, and it remains to be seen if he will indeed become a star for Arsenal.
