Robbie Fowler is hoping that Liverpool will beat Arsenal to the Premier League.
The Gunners have been named as the favourites to become the champions this season, and Mikel Arteta would love nothing more.
Arsenal made eight new signings in the summer transfer window. One of the big ones was Viktor Gyokeres, who was brought in to solve their striker problems.
Fowler, who knows a thing or two about being an elite number nine, doesn’t want the Swede to fire for the North Londoners.
Robbie Fowler is hoping that Viktor Gyokeres won’t score many goals for Arsenal
Goals have been Arsenal’s major problem in recent seasons.
The Gunners have found the net plenty of times, but against stubborn low blocks, they have struggled on more than one occasion.
Gyokeres was the most prolific striker in Europe over the last two campaigns, and Arsenal fans are hoping that he will fire their side to the Premier League crown.
If the Sweden international manages to score over 20 goals this term, the Gunners will likely end the season as the champions.
That would mean Liverpool are dethroned, which is not something Fowler wants to see.
Speaking about the Arsenal number 14, he said on The Added Time podcast: “The expectancy levels have suddenly risen because I mean, the shout for the last couple of years was that they needed a number nine, and obviously with Gyokeres coming in, I think he’s massively important for them.
“Will he get the goals to fire them [to the title]? I mean, I hope not if I’m being honest.”
Viktor Gyokeres will have a personal battle with one Liverpool player
The title race this season is between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Both clubs are phenomenal, and after seven games, they are separated by just one point in the Premier League table.
Gyokeres will be keen to prove his worth at Arsenal after securing his move to the Emirates, but we’re sure he will want to make a statement in his home country as well.
Sweden’s two best strikers both play in England now – Gyokeres and Alexander Isak.
If the former fires Arsenal to the Premier League title ahead of his compatriot, he will have the bragging rights on international duty.
