BBC pundit Mark Warburton says Roy Hodgson ‘will be fuming’ after seeing Leandro Trossard beat two Crystal Palace players to help Arsenal sweep into a 2-0 advantage.

The Gunners enjoyed a dominant first-half at Emirates Stadium on Saturday as the Eagles visited in the Premier League. An early corner from Declan Rice saw Gabriel Magalhaes (11’) break the deadlock. Gabriel (37’) also met a second corner to sweep Arsenal into a 2-0 lead.

Officials would rule that Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson had scored an own goal to deny Gabriel a first-half brace. The shot-stopper could do little to divert the centre-back’s dividing header from finding the back of his net as the ball bounced in off Henderson’s back.

Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard left Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson ‘fuming’

Warburton adored what Rice produced through the opening half an hour as the Arsenal star was ‘dominating’ Crystal Palace. But the ex-Brentford and QPR boss also felt Trossard would have annoyed Hodgson by how he took out two Eagles defenders for Arsenal’s second goal.

“Really poor marking again from Palace,” Warburton noted on BBC Radio 5 Live. “A standard delivery into the box and they should defend their box much better than that.

“You’ve got Trossard – one of the smallest players in Arsenal’s line-up – taking out [Joachim] Andersen and [Jeffrey] Schlupp, they must defend better. Hodgson will be fuming with that.”

Leandro Trossard ended his Premier League goal drought against the Eagles

Trossard, all 5 ft 7 of the Belgian forward, was the thorn in Crystal Palace’s side for Arsenal’s second goal. Ben White was also the thorn in Henderson’s side with Gabriel’s opener as the goalkeeper would not deal with the centre-back standing inside the six-yard box at a corner.

Whatever anger Trossard caused Hodgson for Arsenal’s second goal would only have grown in the second half, too. The 29-year-old delivered the Gunners’ third goal of the game in the 59th minute. It was also his first goal in the top-flight since against Burnley on November 11.

Trossard went eight Premier League appearances without a goal or an assist since recording one of each against the Clarets. His efforts in a 3-1 win at home to Burnley also followed his goal to beat Everton 1-0 in September and to rescue a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea in October.
