Arsenal are set to be one of many very keen onlookers when it comes to the next manager decision surrounding rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils announced the sacking of Erik ten Hag following defeat to West Ham over the weekend, which left the side straggling in the lower depths of mid-table.

With a club the size of Man United, Arsenal fans are likely to be keeping an eye on the hiring process to figure out if their old foes could be back challenging them at the top.

The latest reports state that United are looking to hire Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim in a move that will shake up the Premier League.

It’s certainly a switch that could impact Mikel Arteta over the coming weeks and months ahead in more ways than one.

Ruben Amorim could be hired for Arsenal vs Man United

With Man United looking at making a potential quick hire to land Amorim from Sporting CP, there are some huge knock-on effects.

The Red Devils could see an instant uplift in performances and results after a difficult start that has left them in the lower mid-table regions.

That in itself could bring about momentum heading into December, when the Red Devils travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal.

The Gunners are yet to face United this season and may be cursing the fixture machine for not drawing them earlier on with Ten Hag in charge.

Amorim has already gotten the better of Arteta once over the past few years, most notably in the Europa League.

In March 2023, the teams played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their round of 16 encounter, before another 1-1 draw in the second leg.

The two teams went to penalties, where Sporting ran out winners, beating Arsenal 5-3 from the spot.

That wasn’t the only issue to come out of those ties as injuries to William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu effectively ended the side’s hopes of a Premier League title push.

Ruben Amorim move also impacts Arsenal in the Champions League

Amorim’s switch to become the next Man United manager may not only impact the Premier League for Arsenal this season.

The overall knock-on could impact the Gunners in the Champions League, who are set to face Sporting CP in late November after the international break.

If the head coach has made his move before then, it could add further uncertainty ahead of preparations for the game.

Arteta could be handed a surprise in Portugal on the night if the team decide to go with a different setup or are spurred on by the exit.

That, in itself, could damage their chances in the Champions League as the Gunners look to qualify in the top eight of the competition.
