Sam Allardyce says Arsenal only beat Manchester United because of £30m player

Arsenal got off to a winning start in the Premier League on Sunday with a 1-0 win against Manchester United.

However, this wasn’t a vintage performance from Arsenal as the Gunners appeared to stutter on the Old Trafford stage.

Indeed, Arsenal weren’t great on the day, and many players underperformed, including Viktor Gyokeres who had an underwhelming debut.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been discussing Arsenal’s performance vs United, and he says that the Gunners only won this match because of one player.

Arsenal beat Manchester United because of David Raya

Allardyce discussed the game between Arsenal and Manchester United at the weekend.

The former England manager says there was some poor finishing on the day, but he claimed that David Raya was the reason Arsenal beat United.

Indeed, the pundit says that Raya won Arsenal the game, noting that he made some really good saves.

“Some by poor finishing, some by brilliant saves by the goalkeepers. I thought he won them the game, the goalie. I thought some of the saves he made were just really, really good, you know what I mean?”

Allardyce says David Raya won Arsenal the game against Manchester United, and he’s not wrong.

Indeed, the Spaniard was imperious on the day at Old Trafford, and the stats show just how impressive he was.

Every Premier League winning side through history has had a top goalkeeper between the sticks, and Arsenal clearly have someone in the shape of Raya who they can rely on in the biggest of games.

Of course, Raya will be hoping for some quieter afternoons in the coming weeks, but there will be games where Raya will be busy this season, and, luckily, he has the ability to make a long string of saves against top teams.

Raya will be huge if Arsenal are going to win the Premier League this season.
