Julian Alvarez is a name every Arsenal fan is aware of and is a player that needs to be watched carefully in the summer months.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Alvarez and with Mikel Arteta a big fan of the player, the former Man City forward appears ideally made for this Arsenal side.
His current club, Atletico Madrid, would demand huge money for Alvarez, given they paid City over £82m to sign him in the summer of 2024.
You have £120m to spend on one player in the summer: Are you signing Sandro Tonali or Julian Alvarez?
However, things aren’t completely rosy for Alvarez right now and according to Sergio Aguero, there is something amiss.
Sergio Aguero gives Arsenal hope with comments on Julian Alvarez
Alvarez has been a successful enough signing for Atletico since he arrived. He has already scored over 40 goals for the La Liga side and is on 12 for this campaign.
However, Arsenal are right there in terms of monitoring him and crucially, he isn’t always a regular over 90 minutes under Diego Simeone anymore.

Indeed, it is this that is troubling Aguero, and he told the 3Cat podcast that the behaviour of Alvarez is worth noting.
“It’s just that Julián and Thiago Almada are playing, now that they’ve arrived, they’re both very good and are starters for the Argentine national team these days , and well, it’s strange that they’re not playing, that sometimes, you know, they’re on the bench looking grumpy.
“I really don’t know what’s going on. It’s strange because they’re two very important players for the Argentine national team, especially for the World Cup, and for them to be in this situation is weird, isn’t it?
Do Arsenal spend big on Alvarez or Sandro Tonali?
Given each of these players is likely to cost over £100m, it might mean Arsenal only have room in the budget to land one.
That’s where the debate opens up really as to what Arsenal need more. Some would suggest a world-class midfielder is higher up the agenda.

However, Viktor Gyokeres has been inconsistent and with Gabriel Jesus likely to be moved on at some point, there is a potential landing spot for Alvarez.
Either way, the likelihood of both being signed looks low.
Still, if Arsenal can sign Alvarez, he’d be the more eye-catching capture and could potentially fill the gap at number nine that Arsenal have been searching for for years.
