Sol Campbell names one Arsenal signing he wants in January, it’s not Ivan Toney

Legendary former Arsenal centre-back Sol Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign Victor Osimhen over Ivan Toney.

As reported by Football Transfers, Arsenal are interested in securing the services of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen

According to The Mirror, Mikel Arteta has made Brentford attacker Ivan Toney his top target for the upcoming January transfer window.

Both are top class strikers who would be exciting additions to the roster at the Emirates Stadium. However, neither would come cheap. As per Sky Sports, Brentford are demanding £100 million for Toney. Alternatively, Osmihen could cost £150 million to prise away from the Serie A outfit.

Obviously, there is no chance of signing both players, or any need to, given the Gunners already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah on the books. However, there are doubts over both of the current Arsenal strikers’ ability to score enough goals to fire the club to a Premier League title triumph. The north London club could certainly do with a more prolific presence spearheading their attack.

Sol Campbell makes Victor Osimhen demand

Sol Campbell believes that his former club need a new striker as soon as possible. In a recent interview with The Mirror, the former ‘Invincible’ said, “in the end, they will have to decide by January, do they need a centre forward…in those big, tight games, I think it will help them.”

When asked who he would like to see come in and take up that role, Campbell replied, “Osimhen. But is he going to cost too much money? There’s Ivan [Toney]…if the right person comes along, an out-and-out striker, that can unlock those tight games, knows what to do in those positions, and also keeps defence occupied to then free up other people, they should maybe look at it…the right person will offload the pressure on the team, I think.”

Arsenal have a limited budget to spend in the winter window, and are also eyeing up targets in other areas of the pitch. In order to make any major purchases, they will likely need to make significant sales. As such, it will be a challenge for them to bring in either Osimhen or Toney in January, unless the selling clubs lower their demands.

In the meantime, Leandro Trossard has shown in recent weeks that he can be an effective option for the Gunners up front. He could prove to be the internal solution that saves the club from having to commit to a huge outlay in January.
