Arsenal have had some legendary strikers at the club over the years.
Ian Wright was a fan favourite during the 90s and broke Arsenal’s all-time goal scoring record during the 1997-98 season with strikes against Bolton Wanderers.
He won the Premier League and FA Cup that season, playing alongside Dennis Bergkamp and the pair formed a formidable partnership under Arsene Wenger.
Thierry Henry then signed for the club and eventually went on to smash Wright’s record by scoring 228 goals across two spells for the club. However, neither Henry or Wright are Bergkamp’s favourite strike partner.

Dennis Bergkamp revealed Nicolas Anelka was his favourite Arsenal strike partner
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bergkamp once revealed that French international Nicolas Anelka was his favourite strike partner during his time in North London.
Bergkamp stated: “As a strike partner, Nicolas was probably the best I`ve had at Highbury in terms of understanding.
“That’s quite a plaudit when you understand all the partners I`ve had here from Ian Wright and John Hartson through to Thierry Henry and even Francis Jeffers.
“The way Nicolas played suited me perfectly because he was always looking to run forward on goal. That made it easy for me to predict what he wanted and to know instinctively where he would be on the pitch.”
Nicolas Anelka v Thierry Henry football careers
Both French strikers had exceptional careers and Martin Keown believes Anelka could have eclipsed Henry had he not left Arsenal for Real Madrid in 1999.
Rio Ferdinand also believed Anelka was better than Henry however, their career statistics would suggest otherwise.
| Nicolas Anelka v Thierry Henry career statistics | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Anelka | 670 | 209 | 91 |
| Henry | 794 | 360 | 176 |
Both players had careers littered with trophies however, Henry had the better goal ratio and almost double Anelka’s assists, proving he was the all-round better player.
Mikel Arteta would have loved either of the players in their prime in his current Arsenal squad and if he had, the Gunners may have had a totally different outcome to their domestic campaign.
