Martin Odegaard has had an inconsistent campaign for Arsenal.
The Norwegian playmaker has struggled to live up to the standards he set last season, in which he was named in the PFA Team of the Year after recording 8 goals and 10 assists across 35 Premier League games.
Part of the reason for his struggles this term is the ankle injury Odegaard suffered in September 2024. However, the 26-year-old recaptured some of his best form playing for his national side over the international break

And Arsenal fans were quick to send a message to the club’s hierarchy following Odegaard’s superlative performance against Israel on Tuesday night.
Arsenal fans beg Mikel Arteta and the Board to sign attackers
Odegaard recorded three assists as Norway swept Israel aside in a 4-2 win, picking up the Man of the Match Award in the process.
With two recognised strikers playing in front of him, Arsenal fans on social media were quick to highlight the difference this made to their playmaker’s form.
One wrote: ‘This is how [Odegaard] is when he has two proper CFs in front of him, something he has not had in all his career at Arsenal.’
Another followed suit, saying: ‘Give Odegaard a decent striker and he will bag you at least 30 assists a season.’
Similar views followed, with one fan writing: ‘We just need a clinical striker and leave the rest to Odegaard, he will produce several assists.’
Another fan added: ‘Give [Odegaard] good attackers and let’s see if he won’t deliver.’
The supporter was then more scathing in their criticism of Arteta, continuing: ‘Stop blaming [the] players for the failed business, the coach [handled] the transfer window.’
Not all fans were as complimentary of their midfielder, however, pointing out the Norweigian’s struggles for his club this season.
One simply wrote: ‘[He] has to do it for Arsenal.’
Another expanded on this point, emphasising: ‘Three assists is wild, but let’s not act like Odegaard wasn’t stat-padding against a team that’s been all over the place lately.’
Arsenal linked with several forwards as summer window looms
With it being widely recognised that the Gunners need a striker to take the next step in their development, the club have been linked with a range of options heading into the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have a long held interest in Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish striker having been prolific for Sporting Lisbon since making the move to Portugal in 2023.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 38 | 38 | 9 |
| 2023/24 | 46 | 35 | 13 |
Lille’s Jonathan David is another potential option the club could pursue in the summer.
Indeed, after Arsenal legend Thierry Henry congratulated David following the Canadian’s match-winning performance against the United States in the Concacaf Nations League on Sunday, the 25-year-old is a good option.

Ultimately, there are several options available to the club and incoming Sporting Director Andrea Berta.
They must act if they want to avoid another underwhelming campaign.
