Arsenal have been battling with Liverpool for much of the season in order to secure the top trophies on offer.

Liverpool have undoubtedly got the upper hand over Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title but the two sides could potentially meet in a Champions League semi final.

Arsenal have a nightmare route to the final in Europe but should they overcome one of the Madrid sides they are set to face Liverpool in what would be a blockbuster tie.

However, whilst Arsenal should comfortably cruise into the quarter final of the competition following their 7-1 rout over PSV, Liverpool have still got to overcome the tough challenge of French champions PSG.

PSG ‘surprised’ by Liverpool during Champions League, make Arsenal comparison

PSG succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Champions League last-16 first leg at home to Liverpool despite dominating the game in all areas.

After the game, PSG players were said to be ‘surprised’ by the underwhelming level of performance from Liverpool and are confident in winning the return leg at Anfield, according to L’Equipe.

The report also claimed that the PSG players felt that opponents in the league phase Arsenal and Bayern Munich were ‘stronger’ and ‘more complete’ than Arne Slot’s side.

Arsenal beat PSG 2-0 back in October at the Emirates Stadium thanks to strikes from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka in what was an excellent display from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Mikel Arteta was impressed with Arsenal during their victory over PSG in October 2024

Speaking at his post match press conference following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over PSG earlier in the season, Arteta was also impressed with the performance of his side and the control they displayed.

Arteta stated: “The result as well at half-time was similar to a few days ago and then what happened and managing that emotionally and staying in the game in the way that we had to do.

“I was really impressed and happy with that, even though there were still, especially in the second half, things that we can do much better.”

The Gunners could yet face a reunion with the French champions should they turn around their tie at Anfield and both progress through to the semi final.

There are a lot of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ and football to be played before any semi final dream can be thought about yet.
