Viktor Gyokeres impressed against his Arsenal teammate, William Saliba, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Following the defeat in New York, the local media have been assessing the players’ performances, and they were very happy with the Arsenal striker.
Swedish media impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ performance vs France
Despite the team failing to score, the Swedish media were pleasantly impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ performance versus France.
The striker was pitted against his Arsenal teammate, William Saliba, and even managed to come out on top on several occasions.
Gyokeres won six of his 10 duels throughout the match, also managing one shot at goal and seven carries.
After the 3-0 loss to France, the local media had plenty to say about the Arsenal attacker, and it was mostly very positive.
- Expressen rated Gyokeres 3/5 and said: “Big and strong in a duel with Arsenal friend Saliba after just a minute and played Isak forward, who got the first shot on goal of the match. If anyone hasn’t already understood it, this was the match when Viktor Gyokeres showed what a physical monster he is. Dribbled away by Mbappe at the 1-0 goal. Unfair that it was he who ended up in a defensive position there.”
- Fotbollskanalen also rated him 3/5: “Forward worked hard and took the fight against France’s defenders. But didn’t get much from the referee. A solid effort. Had a dangerous finish in the final stages of the match.”
- Meanwhile, SvenskaFans.com gave him 2/5 and said: “The great striker tried and challenged the French defence. Really took the duels and had the upper hand against his teammate in the national team, William Saliba. However, he did not get anything concrete from his effort. It mostly stopped at just attempts. However, he had a good shot at the end of the match.”
The good news with Sweden’s exit is that Gyokeres will now be available for most of pre-season, unlike last year, when Arsenal spent months negotiating a deal.
The 28-year-old did not get much time to train with his teammates ahead of the season, but now with him being settled at the club and a full pre-season, this could be a big year for the Swede.
