‘Talks are happening’: Arsenal’s Anthony Gordon hopes hit by £75m Bayern Munich talks

Anthony Gordon has been a player of interest for Arsenal for some time now but we could end up seeing Bayern Munich swoop in to ruin things.

The Gunners are big admirers of Gordon and along with Sandro Tonali, he is expected to make a push to leave Newcastle this summer. Tonali, of course, is also on Arsenal’s radar.

However, while Tonali is wanted, a left-winger is seen as essential and that’s why Gordon is on the radar.

But according to German transfer expert Christian Falk, Bayern Munich have already opened talks to sign Gordon.

Bayern Munich open talks to sign Anthony Gordon ahead of Arsenal

Vincent Kompany’s side are already dominant enough and they’ve had huge success with the signings of Harry Kane and Michael Olise from the Premier League.

Gordon, then, could be the next logical addition and according to Falk, things are very much in the works.

“It’s true,” Falk replied when asked about Bayern’s interest in Gordon.

“Anthony Gordon is, of course, an interesting player from Newcastle. This rumour has been floating around for a while, but now it’s been confirmed. I’ve heard that talks are happening, and they’re already discussing figures. Bayern’s plan is to reach an agreement with the player, basically saying: “If I move, I only want Bayern.”

“That way, if Newcastle are forced to sell, because they need money, as we’ve already discussed, Financial Fair Play, and likely missing out on the Champions League, then Bayern would have leverage to lower the price.

“There’s been a lot written about the fee—£80 million, then £75 million reported by The Times. And I know from Bayern’s side that they think that’s too much. It’s a very, very high fee. £75 million is around €86 million, I believe. They don’t want to spend that much on a player who would be more of a backup and a versatile option across multiple positions.

“But he is said to be willing to join.”

Why Arsenal need to decide quickly if they really want Anthony Gordon

There’ll be a difference of opinion among Arsenal fans as to if Gordon is worth it, given it’s going to be a near £100m fee that gets him.

However, if the Gunners are serious keeping on improving then it is imperative that they sign someone of real quality on that left side.

Gordon is among a small cluster of players who is ready-made for the position and crucially, he wouldn’t need any sort of bedding in period in the English game.

There are many pros to signing Gordon for Arsenal but they must act quickly. If Bayern are serious, then it will be nigh on impossible for the player to turn it down.

If that happens, then Arsenal have already missed out on a key target before we are anywhere near the summer window even getting fully going.
