Former Aston Villa winger Gabby Agbonlahor has now explained why he feels Arsenal are favourites to win the Premier League title.

Arsenal will have one clear aim for the upcoming campaign, to go one step better than they managed last time around and actually get their hands on the Premier League title.

In each of the last two seasons, Mikel Arteta’s side have finished as runners up to Manchester City. Last time out the Gunners were able to take the title race down to the final game of the campaign, but still ultimately ended up missing out to Pep Guardiola’s men.

After that disappointed, Arteta promised Arsenal fans that trophies are on the way. He will now be feeling pressure to deliver on that vow.

The North London club have certainly made efforts to improve this summer. Arsenal have signed Riccardo Calafiori, and will look to upgrade their squad further.

On top of that, Arteta also hosted an Arsenal training camp in Marbella before the official start of pre-season, as the Gunners are clearly willing to go above and beyond in an effort to gain an edge on their rivals.

Gabby Agbonlahor backs Arsenal to beat Man City to title

Gabby Agbonlahor is convinced that this extra work will pay off for the Gunners. The 3-cap former England attacker has now backed Arsenal to be crowned Premier League champions.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the pundit said: “The reason why they’re probably favourites are because, let’s look at last season, they only finished two points behind Manchester City and people forget that.

“Arsenal have got every right to be favourites, and they’re going to learn every season now. Mikel Arteta is going to look at that team and say… ‘This is our season now, let’s go and win this title.’”

Premier League title predictions

Agbonlahor is not the only pundit to have tipped Arteta’s men for glory. Three ESPN pundits have also backed Arsenal for the Premier League title, with Stewart Robson, Nedum Onouha, and Mario Melchiot all getting behind the Gunners.

Of course, this weight of expectation invites a pressure of its own, and this Arsenal side still need to prove that they can actually get over the line at the business end of the season. That is the challenge now facing them.
