The Insider’s View: Report over the astronomical figure Arsenal are willing to spend this summer proves incredibly worrying

Recent reports are claiming that Arsenal are due to spend £250m during this transfer window.

According to 90min, the Gunners are prepared to spend the monstrous figure on at least five new signings.

And whilst the news will appeal to the masses of disgruntled supporters, it sounds a frightening prospect.

Arsenal don’t have the best of records in the transfer market over the last few seasons.

Apart from three signings, there are many, many question marks.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kieran Tierney have been successful signings. Whilst David Luiz’s off the fields antics brought a sense of leadership to the squad.

Meanwhile, the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Willian have been monumental flops.

Then you have the strange situation surrounding William Saliba, who despite costing £27m, is yet to appear for the first team.

With everything that has been done, would you trust the north London giants with £250m?

I’d be cautious to say the least.

The recent reports over the side’s chase for Ben White is just one example of why you cant trust the hierarchy.

£50m on a defender, who barely improves upon the quality of centre-halves already at the club is a crazy decision.

However, for some reason, it’s a transfer that seemingly appeals to Mikel Arteta.

There are also reports claiming the outfit want to sign Aaron Ramsdale for £20m.

I mean after his showings for Sheffield United, it’s not a transfer that sounds too bright. Ramsdale possessed a pass accuracy of just 43.4% last season and when you’re a club who loves playing possession football, it’s a poor move.

Amidst reports Arsenal want to spend £250m this transfer window, there needs to be a re-think.

This summer Arsenal need to spend far smarter than they have in the past few campaigns.

Failure to do so could see the outfit fall further behind the big clubs in the Premier League.
