Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has had his say on the Gunners’ reported interest in Brighton and Hove Albion star Ben White.

Mikel Arteta is on the market looking for a new right-sided centre-half and reports have claimed that he views White as the perfect player. Arsenal are trying really hard to sign him, but we fell short with our first attempt.

Sky Sports and The Athletic revealed earlier this week that Brighton had rejected Arsenal’s opening £40 million bid for the Englishman. It was also claimed that Edu is not deterred and he is readying a new offer to sign White, and Watts has now backed that claim.

The Goal journalist has also revealed that White, labelled as ‘fantastic by Ian Wright on ITV (7:10pm, June 6, 2021), is well aware of Arsenal’s interest and he is very keen on a move as well.

Watts said on his YouTube show: “Arsenal have had a bid now rejected for Ben White by Brighton. As far as I understand it, Arsenal are not too discouraged. They think they can get this deal done for Ben White.

“He (White) is very aware of the interest. I understand that he’s keen on a move to Arsenal.

“His agent has been speaking with Edu, those talks have been going very, very well about how Arsenal see him as part of the future. He’s been to London Colney, his agent, and met with Edu. Talks between the clubs are continuing.”

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming days. Multiple reports have revealed that the Seagulls are looking for a fee in excess £50 million for their star defender (TalkSport), and Arsenal might just have to fork out that kind of money to land him.

Edu and Arteta both seem really keen to complete this deal in the coming days. If White really is keen to join us as well, we should expect this deal to be wrapped up fairly quickly, even though the 23-year-old is at the Euros with England.
