There was talk this week of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making a return to Arsenal in some capacity and now it’s clear why.

Oxlade-Chamberlain ended up signing for Celtic as he looks to keep his playing career going.

Of course, ‘The Ox’ is well known for his spell with the Gunners and despite injuries robbing him of being one of the very best we’ve seen at The Emirates, he is still fondly remembered.

Now, after taking an interest in the coaching side of things, there are those who feel Oxlade-Chamberlain might end up back with Arsenal at some point.

Indeed, it seems if Mikel Arteta gets his way, then we might well see that.

Mikel Arteta keen to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has his fingerprints all over everything at Arsenal and that includes right down to the coaching and youth development.

Recently, we’ve seen the club announce the departure of Per Mertesacker, meaning another former Gunner will be on his way.

When it comes to Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Daily Mail reports that Arteta is keen to work with the former England man for more than one reason.

Not only has Oxlade-Chamberlain been spending time at London Colney to work towards his coaching badges, but Arteta is apparently keen for the club to have more former players around the coaching set up.

With Mertesacker obviously leaving and former Sporting Director Edu gone, there is obviously space at the club for more familiarity.

It will be interesting, then, to see if we see The Ox back when he’s done with Celtic.

Former Arsenal players are good for the culture

Of course, anyone coming into the club has to be able to offer something in a proper training or coaching capacity but Arteta’s thinking here does make sense.

Getting former players in and around the club to take sessions or work with younger players can only be a benefit really.

We saw how Jack Wilshere did in his time with the club, and he is another who has moved on.

Mikel Arteta is definitely building something at Arsenal right now and this only serves another reminder of just how detailed he is with his planning.
