‘The right call’: Patrick Vieira says why Mikel Arteta has been so good as Arsenal manager

Mikel Arteta can now call himself a Premier League winner as a manager after beating old mentor Pep Guardiola to the Premier League title.

In the end, it was comfortable for the Gunners after a nervy few months and the celebrations can now start, albeit they do have a Champions League final to think about.

Arsenal’s first title in 22 years saw Martin Odegaard lift the trophy and become the first skipper since Patrick Vieira to do so.

Indeed, Vieira was watching on closely for Premier League Productions and he has claimed that Arteta’s success comes down to getting big calls right.

Patrick Vieira claims Mikel Arteta’s brave decisions have brought him success

There was a moment not that long ago where some were doubting whether Mikel Arteta would actually be the right man for the job.

Had another capitulation happened this year, then things might have looked on edge.

However, now he’s a title winner, Arteta will look back on a job well done and according to Vieira, Arteta’s gutting of the squad over time has been massive.

“Great manager. Always made the right call and the right decision,” Vieira commented.

“The last couple of years, big-name players have left the club because he felt they weren’t part of what he wanted for Arsenal. He brought players in with more team mentality and built a successful team on and off the field.

“They managed to stick together and that is a good sign. You can see the togetherness in this team.”

Arteta has moved on a number of big names over the last few years.

Granit Xhaka was sold, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was quickly got rid of, and the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah have all been moved on.

Clearly, this was a bold and tactical move from Arteta that has now paid off in the best way possible.

The big challenge now is consistency. There is a chance now for Arsenal to be the dominant force in English football and multiple titles during the Arteta era has to be the aim.
