Arsenal have had a busy summer so far and fans are hoping that their transfer business is not concluded just yet.
Arsenal face competition from Tottenham for Eberechi Eze and the Gunners are now facing up the possibility of losing out on the England international.
Andrea Berta’s priority is now player sales and in an aspect that the club has historically struggled in, the Italian is finding it difficult to move players on once again.
It could turn out that Arsenal have to enter the new season with the squad they currently have at their disposal and Theo Walcott thinks one member reminds him of Wayne Rooney.

Theo Walcott says Viktor Gyokeres is built like Wayne Rooney
Speaking on the latest episode of the BBC’s ‘Football Daily’ podcast, Walcott has expressed his belief that new signing Viktor Gyokeres is built like Rooney.
Micah Richards thinks Gyokeres will be ‘special’ for the Gunners this season and Walcott believes that the centre forward could be about to ‘destroy’ Premier League defenders.
Walcott stated: “I think looking at his frame, he’s, you look at someone like Wayne Rooney, for instance, who always had that stature, was always going to, like Mikel Arteta said, destroy defenders.
“And I love the fact he said that because defenders will hear that and they want to try and get up and personal with him. But that won’t work. It really won’t.
“But I think he will stay like that. I think the, you know, he’s, he’s already been in the Premier League briefly, didn’t quite work, but look, that’s his build.
“I think that’s how he’s made. And I think it’s more the goal threat from, from the area of that really. I think I’m more intrigued in, like you’re saying, when there isn’t an option, why not put it in there?
“That’s what we did with Giroud. Put it into an area. A forward knows where to be at that right time, the right minute.
“And obviously the goal he scored pre-season recently was him in a nutshell. So look, I think that’s, for me, I like this build, I think it’s different.”
The Swede is expected to make his competitive debut for the Gunners against Rooney’s old club Manchester United, where Gyokeres will also come up against his former manager Ruben Amorim.
What does Viktor Gyokeres need to do to emulate Wayne Rooney?
Emulating Rooney’s record would mean a pretty decent career for Gyokeres in North London, especially with the goals scored and trophies won by the former England captain.
Rooney won five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his time with the Red Devils, he even included five domestic cups on his CV too.
| Wayne Rooney’s best Premier League season (2011-12) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Rooney | 34 | 27 | 6 |
Ally McCoist has backed Gyokeres to score more goals than rivals Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro this season.
However, Rooney’s record of 27 goals from the 2011-12 season may be a bit of a stretch in his first season in the English top-flight.
Come close to that number and Arsenal will be licking their lips at the prospect of a major trophy this season.
