Arsenal need to avoid a long-running saga with Thomas Partey’s contract.
Jorginho’s emotional farewell means that the Gunners currently have just three recognised central midfielders on their books and Partey’s deal expires at the end of this month.
Partey is talking to European clubs but Arsenal are still in the running to extend the Ghanaian international’s stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal want a quick resolution with Partey so that they can plan further summer transfer business if required and the midfielder has finally broken his silence on his future.

Thomas Partey breaks silence on Arsenal future
Speaking to 3Sports Ghana, Partey has finally broken his silence on his future at the Gunners but was giving little away in terms of whether a decision has been made.
Arsenal have offered a contract to Partey but it appears that the midfielder is letting his agent and the club come to an agreement.
When asked about signing a new contract, Partey stated: “I’m also an Arsenal fan. I can’t decide anything, it’s up to my agent and the clubs. Me? I just want to enjoy football.”
The Ghana international also agreed that he has just had his best season at the club and put it down to one huge factor.
Partey explained: “Yeah [it was my best season] I think [fans] they would put it down to the availability because I was available throughout the whole season, so of course they will say that.”
Thomas Partey will still be a key player for Arsenal if he signs
Martin Zubimendi’s imminent arrival is thought to be playing a part in Partey’s decision over whether he extends his contract.
However, the Spanish midfielder doesn’t change the fact that Partey would still be a key element in Mikel Arteta’s side next season.
| Key statistics this season (per 90 mins) | Partey | Zubimendi |
| Appearances | 35 | 36 |
| Progressive passes | 5.95 | 5.93 |
| Pass completion | 87.4% | 83.6% |
| Goal creating actions | 0.42 | 0.18 |
| Tackle success rate | 60.5% | 63.6% |
| Aerial duel success rate | 50.9% | 62.4% |
Partey outperformed Zubimendi in a number of key areas this season and has a wealth of experience that could prove vital in Arsenal’s hunt for silverware.
The pair could even be played in tandem depending on the context of the game, Partey still has a future at the Gunners should he choose to sign the offer on the table.
