The Champions League is back as it enters the quarter-final stage, with Arsenal facing off against Real Madrid over the coming week.

While it has been a tough season for the Gunners, there still remains some hope that they can win silverware in Europe this campaign.

It will be tough for Mikel Arteta and his side, though, to overcome the challenge of a team synonymous with the Champions League.

Arsenal take on Real Madrid, with the first leg at the Emirates Stadium before making the trip to Madrid for the second leg.

There are a few team selection issues for Arsenal to deal with, as injuries are starting to pile up once again.

However, there are also suspension issues as Raheem Sterling is banned for the first leg after picking up another yellow card last time out.

On top of his one-game ban, there are three other stars who are at risk of the same fate over the next two matches.

Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Martinelli at risk of Champions League ban for Arsenal

While Sterling is out for the first leg against Real Madrid, the loanee will be available again for the second leg.

The same may not be said of his Arsenal teammates, though, with some other suspension concerns currently in the camp.

Both Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli are at risk, with the trio being just one booking away from a suspension.

This is due to the Champions League yellow card rules, which state that three bookings will result in a one-match ban.

If Rice, Timber or Martinelli picks up another yellow card in the first leg, then they will miss the second leg, while a booking in that second encounter would result in missing the first semi-final.

It comes with a potential warning for Mikel Arteta over his potential team selection over the coming matches.

Will the Arsenal boss opt for both stars at risk of them getting suspended, or does he look at other options in the squad?

Time will tell, though it’s not only a problem from within the Arsenal camp, too.

Real Madrid suspension risks and bans

Real Madrid have already been handed plenty of suspensions in the Champions League this season, with Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Jr serving those.

The pair currently sit on four bookings, meaning they are one away from another suspension for the upcoming match.

Aurelien Tchouameni is suspended to face Arsenal, having picked up his third yellow card against Atletico Madrid last time out.

Luka Modric, Endrick, Antonio Rudiger and Eduardo Camavinga are all one booking away from picking up their third and missing out.
