Three winners and two losers from Raheem Sterling's Arsenal exit including Mikel Arteta impact

Raheem Sterling’s time at Arsenal is set to come to an end this summer, as he is expected to return to Chelsea after his season-long loan.

The winger joined on transfer deadline day last summer, hopeful of returning to some of his best form after a difficult spell with the Blues.

While there was some initial excitement over Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal, that quickly petered out.

Instead, fans were left frustrated as the forward was left on the bench most weeks, unable to make much of an impact.

Even when Arsenal were suffering from injuries and suspensions, the lack of impact from Raheem Sterling on the outcome of games was clear.

As his loan spell comes to an end, here’s a look at the winners and losers from the decision not to strike a permanent deal for the experienced ace.

Winners from Raheem Sterling’s Arsenal exit

Ethan Nwaneri had a breakout campaign for Arsenal, making his way into the senior team from the Hale End academy on a regular basis.

The youngster was quickly drafted in as a right-wing option after Bukayo Saka’s injury, making quite the impression.

If there’s one thing that is often associated with Martin Odegaard, it’s the link-up he has on the right wing with his teammates.

The Arsenal club captain has been known for teaming up well with Bukayo Saka, with the pair becoming a formidable partnership.

However, with Sterling, it never quite worked out for Odegaard, and there wasn’t an opportunity to replicate what he has with Saka.

Perhaps, with some fresh faces, the playmaker can discover that spark again on the right.

Gabriel Martinelli has proven his versatility this season for Arsenal, featuring on both the left and right flanks.

With the potential for another incoming player on the left, the exit of Sterling opens up a chance for the Brazilian to feature on the right more.

Having been comfortable on his right foot, Martinelli could offer a different dimension to the Gunners there over the outgoing loanee.

In truth, Raheem Sterling will be disappointed with what has been a bit of a nightmare loan spell for him.

The winger only managed to score once across all competitions, while his handful of appearances won’t help his case for a new club.

Had he managed to add a little more, perhaps he would be one of the winners to come out of the move.

Sterling’s move to Arsenal failing the way it did isn’t a good look for Mikel Arteta either.

The Arsenal boss looked to get the most out of a player he had worked with before, determined to make it work.

However, the lack of minutes and impact ultimately made it look poor for him, while he now loses another depth option heading into the summer.
