Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has claimed that Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah would be an upgrade over Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United.
The 24-year-old Englishman was on fire today at the Emirates. He scored a fantastic hattrick to help Arsenal pick up a 5-0 win over Sheffield United. Nketiah is earning huge praise from everyone now.
Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah is better than Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund
A comparison between Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah and Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund was not something we thought we would be debating today.
The Gunners star has been at the end of a ton of criticism recently, while the Dane at Old Trafford is being hailed as the next Erling Haaland.
However, after Nketiah’s performance for Arsenal against Sheffield United today, Tim Sherwood is absolutely convinced that the £100,000-a-week Gunner is better than the £72 million Manchester United forward.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Sherwood said, as quoted by Football365: “I feel sorry for Eddie [Nketiah] because people always, even Arsenal fans, always asking questions about him and look at what he can’t do.
“I like to look at what they can do. He can play in a lot of teams. A lot of big teams. You’re telling me this boy couldn’t play for Man United at the moment, instead of Hojlund? He’s an upgrade on Hojlund. They spent an awful lot of money on him.
“For me, he’s top drawer. I think he warrants playing for Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. Jesus will help him out massively as well. We are always looking for something else and I think we should appreciate what we’ve got in front of our nose.
“That boy has come through the academy, he has had opportunities to leave, he didn’t want to leave the football club. He’s got a right to stay there and fight for his place. I think Mikel is recognising that the boy really wants to play for the club. He’s put the armband on there today with a match ball under his arm. What a proud moment for him and his family.”
Nketiah was outstanding today
Before the game today, there were plenty of Arsenal fans hoping to see Leandro Trossard or Kai Havertz lead the line after it was confirmed that Gabriel Jesus is out with an injury.
Mikel Arteta, however, decided to keep his faith in Nketiah, and the 24-year-old repaid it.
Nketiah had three shots at goal and scored three goals. The first one was an outstanding turn and finish, the second was all about instinct, and the third was one of the best goals he’ll ever score.
Every time Jesus gets injured, Nketiah steps up. He has done it again now, and it’s time we start giving him the credit he deserves.
