The duo will be frustrated that they were unable to keep Manchester City out in the Carabao Cup final, but will need to use that pain to fuel the remainder of the season.

Now, Adams has been speaking about the pair and admitted his admiration for both of Arsenal’s current central defenders.

Tony Adams on William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes

Tony Adams has admitted that he could not pick between William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as his ideal centre-back partner.

The former Gunners’ captain believes that he would complement both players well, having had to adapt his game multiple times during his career.

“I played alongside some tremendous central defenders. I started the game playing alongside Dave O’Leary, who was more of a sweeper, more of a Saliba,” Adams told Carabao.

“I then played alongside Steve Bould, who was more of a Gabriel, so I moulded my game around their strengths and weaknesses.

“To be honest, I would love to play with both of them. I could complement Saliba with my ‘Go get him, I’ll go and mark Haaland, you just cover me’.

“The other way round, I’d like to tell Gabriel, ‘Go on and I’ll sweep around you’, so both of them I would love to play with.”

Gabriel and William Saliba have withdrawn from international duty for the March 2026 break, with the Gunners assessing both defenders.

The Brazilian has a minor knee issue; meanwhile, Saliba has an ankle injury, which Arsenal will be hoping is nothing major.

During the last international break in November, Gabriel suffered a hip injury, and the North London club will have been desperate to avoid that happening again.
