Arsenal head into the first international break with some tactical issues to iron out.

Arsenal players are jetting off around the world as the likes of Gabriel Martinelli head to South America and a host of stars are competing in the European FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Viktor Gyokeres has hit back at Freddie Ljungberg over criticism of Arsenal’s display against Liverpool with many pundits and former players claiming the Gunners were too defensive.

It took a moment of magic to break through Mikel Arteta’s side, however, they struggled going forward and Troy Deeney thinks that one player has been figured out by Premier League sides.

Troy Deeney thinks Gabriel Magalhaes has been figured out at set pieces

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘The Sports Agents’ podcast, Deeney has revealed that opposition defences have now worked out how to defend Gabriel Magalhaes at set pieces.

Gabriel has been described as ‘excellent’ and has been one of the Gunners most potent attacking threats in recent seasons.

Deeney stated: “But if you keep relying on set pieces, teams will just do what Liverpool did, which was put the small man on Gabriel.

“Soon as he breaks through that, he runs straight into Szoboszlai. And now we go and let the big boys go ahead.

“So after a year, maybe 18 months of being able to be that surprise package because they’ve got great delivery and they’ve got people that want to head it.

“Now, the same way it used to be with Man City, everyone’s watch studied and gone, right, this is how we stop them.”

Premier League statistics suggest Troy Deeney is wrong about Arsenal

Liverpool defended corners well in their 1-0 victory and Arsenal failed to win the first contact – something that is crucial to their success under Nicolas Jover.

Gary Neville criticised Declan Rice for his deliveries and it was evident that the Gunners missed Bukayo Saka swinging the ball in from the left.

However, Arsenal have still scored half of their goals from set pieces this season and top the charts in the Premier League.

One game doesn’t mean that teams have worked them out and Jover will be formulating his next plan over the international break to unleash on Nottingham Forest.
