Troy Deeney says he’s seen a player at Arsenal who plays just like Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah

Arsenal’s squad is filled with top-class players and is perhaps even better than Liverpool’s.

The Gunners finished second in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season, while the Reds, in their final campaign under Jurgen Klopp, finished seven points below in third.

The two clubs will likely be in the title race again this term along with Manchester City, and it will be really interesting to see who will get on top.

Liverpool will be counting on Mohamed Salah to come up with the goods, but Arsenal have a player like the Egyptian too – says Troy Deeney.

Troy Deeney explains how Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is similar to Mohamed Salah

Bukayo Saka is one of the best players in the world.

The Englishman turns 23 today and he has already achieved so much. He has been the most important part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild and is one of the first names on the team sheet every week.

Saka has started the 2024/25 season brilliantly. He has a goal and two assists in his first three games, and we’re sure he will want to break his own personal record this term.

One player he will be competing with to be the best right-winger in the Premier League is Salah, who is an absolute legend.

Deeney, who has come up against both Saka and Salah when he used to be a player, has noticed some similarities between the two wide forwards.

On the Seaman Says podcast, the Arsenal legend first said: “Saka just couldn’t connect with the ball for some reason.”

Deeney replied: “He does that though, but the reason he gets away with it is because he scores. Dare I say it he’s a bit like Mohamed Salah in that situation.

“Salah creates a lot of chances for himself, but when he doesn’t score it’s like ‘oh my god, he’s missed five today.’ But you know in your head he will probably get three the week after.”

What Saka needs to do to beat Salah’s Premier League legacy

Salah has been in the Premier League for a little over seven years now, and he has been one of the best players this country has ever seen.

The Egyptian has played 266 games in the English top division, scored 160 goals and provided 72 assists for Liverpool over the years.

Saka, on the other hand, has played 173 games in the Premier League, scored 48 goals and provided 38 assists for the North Londoners.

The Arsenal number seven is still far away from Salah’s numbers, but this will likely be the Liverpool man’s final season in the Premier League.

Saka, however, easily has another 10 years at the top level, and even if he averages 15 league goals a season, he will end his career with better numbers than Salah.

The biggest legacy, however, is trophies, and Salah has won just one Premier League title. We are convinced Saka will win more in the coming years.
