Bukayo Saka was once again a star for Arsenal in last night’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, yet the big talking point was of course the late penalty decision.

The England international went down in the final seconds of the match after being clipped by Manuel Neuer having opened the scoring earlier in the match with a fine finish 12 minutes in, with the referee waving off Arsenal’s potential tie-winning chance against Bayern.

With the likes of Leandro Trossard believing the foul was a penalty, Arsenal can feel hard done in by with the decision to not award a spot kick so late in the game, especially with a draw a far from ideal result for the north London side against a team as good as Bayern.

Bukayo Saka’s reaction to controversial Arsenal v Bayern Munich decision caught by TV cameras

And as per TNT Sports, TV cameras picked up Saka’s reaction to the decision, with the 22-year-old visibly frustrated with the referee’s lack of action to award Arsenal a penalty.

Given how important a potential late winner would have been for Arsenal, it’s no real wonder why Saka was so mad with the referee’s decision to not point to the spot in the final seconds of the match.

Indeed, given Arsenal’s penalty record as well this season, there’s good reason to believe that the Gunners would have made it 3-2 with what would have been the final kick of the game.

Yet, the referee’s decision was final, and Arsenal now head to Munich next week with the sole mission of getting a win at one of Europe’s hardest grounds.

Arsenal will be baffled by referee’s late decision

The late penalty decision will be one that’s talked about and dissected to death in the coming days, yet for Arsenal, they will only feel confusion over what the referee was thinking.

Players and officials are all in agreement that a penalty should have been awarded to Arsenal against Bayern, with Neuer’s foul on Saka as obvious as daylight.

And Arsenal will be fuming with the decision, especially with Bayern now the favourites to progress into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
