Arsenal legend Ian Wright has now opened up about his single most precious memory from his playing days in North London.
Ian Wright remains an iconic figure at Arsenal.
The former striker achieved some remarkable feats across his career with the Gunners. Between his arrival in 1991 and his eventual departure in 1998, the 60-year-old made 288 appearances for the club, across all competitions, scoring 185 goals.
Wright was Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer, until his tally was eclipsed by Thierry Henry. He is still a much-loved and talismanic figure at the Emirates Stadium, and remains supportive of the club and Mikel Arteta’s efforts to bring back the glory days he was a part of.
Ian Wright reveals Arsenal career highlight
In his Arsenal career, Wright won two FA Cups, a League Cup, and a European Cup Winners’ Cup. Then, in his final campaign at Highbury Stadium, he finally got his hands on a league title, as Arsene Wenger led the Gunners to a Premier League triumph in 1998.
Wright recently named former Crystal Palace boss Steve Coppell as the best manager he ever worked with, but he undeniably enjoyed his greatest triumphs under George Graham and Wenger.
The greatest of all came with the latter coach at the helm.

In conversation with GQ, Wright has now named his best memory from his time as an Arsenal player, and there was no trace of uncertainty or doubt in his response, as he stated: “Lifting the Premier League. It’s what I went there for. I went there to win things. I wanted to win the league because that’s where you’re judged. So to finally do it in the season where I was injured for half of it was unbelievable. Easily the best memory, lifting the Premier League.”
Mikel Arteta aiming to put Arsenal back on top
Arsenal went on to enjoy further silverware success under Wenger, the highlight of which undoubtedly came in the 2004/04 season when the Gunners won the Premier League title without losing a single match. That side have been immortalised as the Invincibles, and remain the last Arsenal team to be crowned champions of England.
Arteta has made the club genuine title contenders again. Last season, the Gunners were able to take the Premier League title race down to the final day of the campaign, before narrowly losing out to Manchester City. Arteta has since vowed to Arsenal fans that silverware is on its way. Wright will be hoping as much as anyone that that is true.
