Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford.
The Gunners originally only wanted to sign one midfielder this summer, and a deal has been agreed to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
However, after news emerged that Thomas Partey will be leaving Arsenal, it became clear that another man in the middle of the park was needed.
Arsenal and Norgaard have agreed terms over a transfer, and the deal with Brentford has also been completed.
This move definitely comes as a surprise, especially considering what happened just over two months ago.
Christian Norgaard left Mikel Arteta ‘seething’ during Arsenal vs Brentford
Mikel Arteta wears his heart on his sleeve on the touchline during Arsenal games.
The Spaniard is extremely passionate, and we’ve all seen him animated on the sidelines time and again over the last five years.
Back in April, when Brentford faced Arsenal at the Emirates, Arteta was absolutely furious with Christian Norgaard, the player he is trying to sign now.
The Dane made a horrible tackle on Gabriel Martinelli, and almost everyone felt that he deserved a red card for his challenge.
Arteta was absolutely irate on the touchline – he demanded a sending off, and when the referee didn’t agree, he had a go at the fourth official.
Albert Stuivenberg had to stand between the Arsenal manager and the official to stop things from getting out of hand — just look at his reaction in a video shared by Isaan Khan, who filmed it from the stands at the Emirates.
“Arteta seething on touchline about Norgaard’s tackle on Martinelli. Was a bad challenge,” the journalist wrote in his tweet.
Mikel Arteta’s six-word response about Christian Norgaard’s terrible tackle on Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli meeting Norgaard for the first time will be awkward when the latter arrives at Arsenal.
The Arsenal number 11 claimed after the game that the Dane could’ve broken his leg with his tackle — he was not happy at all.
As the video shows above, Arteta was furious too, and the Arsenal manager let his actions speak when asked for his view on the challenge.
“I think my reaction says everything,” Arteta said after the game, as per Arsenal.com.
Despite the incident, it seems like Arteta is a big fan of Norgaard, and we think this is a very smart signing from the Gunners if they can get it over the line.
