Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the fastest strikers in the Champions League this season, recording a speed of 33.26km/h.

Gyokeres has endured a mixed start to life at the Emirates Stadium; however, his stats show that Mikel Arteta’s team are not doing enough to get the best from him.

The striker has 13 goals in 34 matches so far, and it’s clear that he is struggling to adapt to his new surroundings in North London.

However, the Swede has a strong case that he could be doing so much better if the team were to actually utilise his impressive speed.

Arsenal are not utilising Viktor Gyokeres’ speed

CIES data shows that only a handful of strikers have recorded a quicker top speed than Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres in the Champions League this season.

The 27-year-old ranks 13th on the list of strikers, with an impressive top speed of 33.36km/h during the competition.

One of Arsenal’s quickest players, Gabriel Martinelli, comes in just ahead of him at 34.68km/h, which again highlights how quick the Swede actually is.

It’s been a rare occurrence to see the Arsenal team look for Gyokeres in behind opposition defences, although it did happen recently against Kairat.

Kai Havertz played a great ball in behind for Gyokeres, who managed to finish off the move after getting in behind Kairat’s back-line.

Gyokeres has clearly grown tired of the lack of service he is receiving at Arsenal, and it’s evident that Arteta needs to start using his £63 million striker on the break.

There is also a case to be made that Arteta’s system does not really need an out-and-out centre forward, and it’s Gyokeres’ work off the ball, which is most important.

Gabriel Martinelli is Arsenal’s fastest recorded player

As mentioned, Martinelli has proven that he is the king of speed in North London, and he is Arsenal’s fastest recorded player in the Champions League.

The winger is well known for his speed on the wing, and he ranks 10th in the competition this term for top speed at 34.68km/h.

However, the Brazilian’s issue remains a lack of end product, which he must add to his game if he hopes to remain at the club beyond the summer.
