It’s not been the easiest start to life at Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres, but things finally seem to be moving in the right direction.

Gyokeres has 11 goals in his opening 30 appearances for Arsenal, which, in ordinary circumstances, would represent a good start.

However, joining the team who are leading the Premier League title race as a striker who scored 54 goals last season, there’s an expectation that Gyokeres should be doing more.

Now with six goal contributions in his last six games, things are looking up for the Swede, who has recently shared his assessment of his transfer to Arsenal.

If you were a defender, which Arsenal player would you least like to play against?

Viktor Gyokeres discusses his start to life at Arsenal

Gyokeres’ recent form has gone under the radar, which is mostly due to the discourse surrounding him being so negative.

Adapting from the Liga Portugal to the Premier League is no joke, just ask Darwin Nunez, but Gyokeres is enjoying life at Arsenal nonetheless.

“I’ve enjoyed it since I came here,” the Arsenal striker told CBS Sports, before opening up about the challenges he’s faced.

“It’s been challenging at times, but I’ve been improving a lot, try to learn as much as possible with the team and in the club. I’ve been enjoying it, but of course it’s been a challenge.”

The 27-year-old signalled that better times are ahead, as he compared his start to life in the Premier League to how he took a moment to adapt after joining Sporting CP from Coventry City.

“It was the same when I moved to Portugal, it didn’t work perfectly from the beginning, there was also a period where I have to adjust to the style and how they want to play.

“It’s the same thing here. It’s a bit different. You have to adapt and embrace it.”

After adapting to the Portuguese style of football, Gyokeres departed Sporting CP with 97 goals to his name, with every Arsenal fan dreaming that the striker will have the same impact in England.

Mikel Arteta is seeing Gyokeres’ progression

It’s been a difficult start, but Gyokeres is showing signs of turning a page, signs that his manager is noticing.

In Mikel Arteta’s pre-match press conference ahead of facing Chelsea, the Arsenal manager was asked about his striker’s recent form.

“He has been much more consistent in actions and consecutive actions especially,” Arteta said.

“His defending input has been terrific from the beginning. But attacking-wise, understanding his movement, the timings of his runs, the presence and movement of the ball has been much better.

“He has been more prolific certainly, in front of goal to help us to win more games.”

With a London derby against Chelsea next up for the Gunners, Gyokeres will be eyeing another goal, in what could trigger the start of something special for the centre-forward.
