A former Arsenal player has turned Vinicius Junior’s head after leaving the Gunners during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta had a clear-out at Arsenal in the summer window, with a mass of players leaving on loan on deadline day.

There were fewer permanent exits than Arsenal had hoped, with the only regular first-teamers leaving being Kieran Tierney and Jorginho.

Tierney made history by firing Scotland to the World Cup, and now, Jorginho has followed suit by becoming a history-maker in South America.

Jorginho makes history by winning the Copa Libertadores

Jorginho became an instant hero at Flamengo after signing for the Brazilian club as a free agent in the summer.

After Jorginho starred at the Club World Cup, it became clear that Flamengo had bagged a jewel from Arsenal, a vision that has become so much clearer now.

On Saturday night, Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores, a match that Jorginho played 90 minutes of, making history by lifting the trophy.

The Italian became only the 18th player in history to have won the Copa Libertadores and the Champions League by helping Flamengo to the prize at the age of 33.

Jorginho followed in the footsteps of names such as Ronaldinho, Neymar and Carlos Tevez, as well as former Gunner, David Luiz.

It was a triumphant night for the former Arsenal player, who has another piece of silverware to add to his bustling trophy cabinet.

Many players in the Arsenal squad follow Brazilian football, so there’s no doubt that Jorginho will be a talking point in the dressing room.

It’s not just at Arsenal that Jorginho will be generating attention from Europe, as Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior is a huge Flamengo fan, being an academy product of the Rio de Janeiro club.
