There was a genial atmosphere between some Arsenal and Newcastle United stars at times yesterday.
However, by the time the Arsenal players were ready to leave St James’ Park, having been beaten 1-0, the smiles will have been wiped off their faces.
Mikel Arteta saw his side’s Premier League title ambitions dealt a hefty blow on Tyneside. So many of the Gunners’ big name players were short of their best in this fixture, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli, amongst others, all underperforming.
Injuries have been a big problem for Arsenal so far this season, but Ben White was at least able to make his return to action against Newcastle, coming on in the second half.
Whilst Arteta’s substitutions were a problem against the Magpies, Arteta will at least be delighted to have White at his disposal once again.

Arsenal ace Ben White blanks Kieran Trippier
White will be able to make use of the upcoming November international break to recover further, as he will not be on duty with England.
The Arsenal right-back has not represented his nation for some time, having stepped down from international duty.
As such, it would now seem that he does not have such a close relationship with some of his erstwhile England teammates.
As shown on TNT Sports, Arsenal’s trio of Three Lions stars, Saka, Declan Rice, and Raheem Sterling, were all seen warmly greeting Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier, who racked up 54 caps for England before calling time on his England career.
However, White walked straight past the 34-year-old full-back without a glance.
How Arsenal must manage the international break
Whilst Sterling is unlikely to be in line for an England call up later this month, Saka and Rice are almost certain to feature for the national side.
They won’t be the only players called away from the Emirates Stadium, either. Arteta’s squad is full of international players.
However, the manager will be wary of releasing certain stars. Martin Odegaard was injured during the last international break, and has not yet returned to action for the Gunners.
Odegaard could be fit to face Inter Milan on Wednesday, but Arteta will be keen to allow the Norwegian midfielder time to ease his way back to full match fitness gradually. If he is called away to represent his country, it could prove too much too soon for the 25-year-old and aggravate his condition.
