Arsenal are looking to sign a new left winger this summer, and one player who has been linked is PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Kvaratskhelia has been linked to Arsenal, and the Georgian has quickly established himself as one of the best and most exciting players in Europe.

The attacker was at it again on Tuesday evening as he put on a show against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s coverage of the game, Wayne Rooney was full of praise for the winger, going as far as to compare to him to Arsenal legend Marc Overmars.

Wayne Rooney compares Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Marc Overmars

Wayne Rooney’s comparison between Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Marc Overmars will not go unnoticed at Arsenal, especially with the winger recently linked to the club.

Overmars remains one of the most iconic wide players in Arsenal’s history, known for his pace, movement and ability to decide games. If Kvaratskhelia is being mentioned in that same breath, it says a lot about the type of player he is.

Rooney explained the comparison in detail.

“I think more importantly to that is the detail of his run. I said to Clarence (Seedorf), he reminds me a bit of Marc Overmars. Coming short, getting the ball and then running in behind. Yes, the defending wasn’t great, but it’s the decisions running behind and the pass and then his ability to come inside and it’s a really good finish,” Rooney said.

That description fits exactly what Arsenal have been missing at times.

Kvaratskhelia is not just a winger who stays wide and waits for the ball. He is constantly moving, coming short to link play and then attacking space in behind. That unpredictability makes him difficult to defend and adds a different dimension to an attack.

Overmars thrived in a system that valued speed and directness, and Kvaratskhelia brings those same qualities. Arsenal’s current left-sided options have had strong moments, but there have been games where the attack has lacked that ability to do something imaginative to beat their man.

Rooney’s point about decision-making is just as important as the physical attributes. Kvaratskhelia’s timing of runs and ability to cut inside and finish are what separate him from more traditional wide players. Those details are what Arteta looks for in attackers.

Kvaratskhelia could be the signing of the summer if Arsenal are able to bring him to the Emirates.
