Wayne Rooney shares whether he’d rather be at Arsenal or Man City right now in the title race

We’re heading into the business end of the season, and, as usual when Arsenal are involved, the title race is too close to call.

Arsenal are top of the league as things stand, but, with Manchester City having a game in hand, Pep Guardiola’s side may well be favourites to win the league.

Wayne Rooney has offered an interesting take on the title race, backing Arsenal to win the league while also admitting he would still rather be in Manchester City’s position right now.

That contradiction is interesting, and says a lot about where both teams stand and how their recent form has changed perceptions.

Arsenal remain in control at the top of the table, but recent performances have introduced tension. City, on the other hand, are chasing with momentum and experience, which often proves decisive at this stage of the season.

Simple question: Would you rather be in Pep Guardiola or Mikel Arteta’s shoes right now?

Wayne Rooney would rather be in the Man City dressing room

Wayne Rooney knows what it takes to win a Premier League title.

Indeed, Rooney has won numerous titles with Manchester United as a player, and, in his mind, it would be better to be in the City dressing room right now.

However, the former England captain did note that he still thinks Arsenal will win the league.

“What dressing room would you rather be in right now?” Rooney was asked.

“City’s, 100%.” Rooney said.

“Yeah, for me, I think it depends what you’re going for. In terms of the Premier League race, you’d rather be in City’s one,” Rooney said.

“I think Arsenal will win it, but it’s a challenge if then trying to go and win it from City again, where for Arsenal, I think all the pressure is on Arsenal. I think all the pressure is definitely on Arsenal trying to win the league.”

City are used to this situation. They have chased down leaders before and know how to handle the final stretch. There is a freedom that comes with being the team hunting, especially when expectations are lower externally.

Arsenal are dealing with the opposite.

They have led for most of the season, and now every result carries extra weight. The closer they get to the title, the more the pressure builds. Rooney believes that burden is now the defining factor in the race.

Arsenal are not just competing with City, they’re battling with their own demons based on recent history.

“Their recent performances have shown signs of nerves, particularly in games where they are expected to dominate. Even when they win, the tension is visible.

City haven’t had that same issue, they have momentum on their side and are playing with a real sense of freedom at the moment.

They can focus purely on results, knowing that any slip from Arsenal brings them closer. That position often allows them to play with more control and confidence, especially in big moments.

Arsenal still have the advantage in the table, but City may have the advantage in mindset. If Arsenal are going to finish the job, they will need to handle that pressure better than they have in recent weeks.
