Arsenal have extended Mikel Arteta’s contract at the club to take his reign as manager to 2027.

The news comes as a huge boost for Arsenal and one that was perhaps expected, given what Arteta is building at the Emirates.

Great change has been evident since the Spaniard took charge in 2019, with the Gunners moving from eighth-place dwindlers to challengers for the Premier League title.

The transformation has been crucial to getting Arsenal back to where they are supposed to be, with Arteta’s work and spirit embodying what has been missing since Arsene Wenger’s glory days.

It’s been a whirlwind for Arteta as manager of Arsenal, returning to North London as a coach after spending three and a half years under Pep Guardiola’s wing at Manchester City.

Being a former Arsenal player and captain, the Spaniard knows exactly what it means to play for the Gunners, an energy that is contagious in the dressing room.

From strong player relationships to building refreshed a playing style, it’s been a celebratory period for Arteta, who expressed his delight at committing his future to the club, via Arsenal’s official website

“I feel extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next,” Arteta said.

“I’m proud to be where I am and have the relationships that I have with everyone at the club.

“I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.”

The boss went on to turn his focus to the supporters, and the impact that the fans far and wide have had on the rebuild at the Emirates.

“Together with the players and everyone at the club, we are looking forward to the coming years, with our supporters, who have emotionally transformed the club and the team.

“Our supporters have transformed individuals and we are different now. You can tell that we are different and for me, that is down to them.

“We look forward to continuing the journey together.”

Arteta’s managerial record at Arsenal

Not many would have anticipated the impact Arteta would have on Arsenal, given how badly things started for the boss as a coach in North London.

The Gunners recorded back-to-back eighth-place finishes, which then shifted to a fifth-place finish, to then missing out on the Premier League title twice to City.

It’s an inspired level of progression, which the boss will be desperate to see end in silverware at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

During his time at Arsenal in the Premier League, Arteta has overseen 105 wins, 28 draws and 42 defeats, with plenty more victories to come in the next three years of his contract.

Fans will be elated to see the Spaniard extend his stay at the Emirates, with much more to be done in the years ahead.
