What Arsenal internally think of their squad revealed as transfer stance emerges

It is still unclear what business Arsenal will do in the January transfer window, but many will argue that some sort of additions are necessary.

Arsenal have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions, are out of both domestic cups and have lost serious ground in the title race.

The Winter break has come at the perfect time, with several players unavailable and a number of stars badly out of form.

There is a lack of depth in defence, and Arsenal may look to reinforce in that area, whilst they have been told to sign a striker amid recent struggles in form. However, with financial fair play rules causing issues, Arsenal’s transfer stance may come as a surprise.

Arsenal believe they have enough depth

A report from The Telegraph has now revealed that Arsenal believe they are well-stocked in every position when everyone in the squad is fit.

“Arsenal are open to doing business in January but need to be careful with their finances,” the report stated.

“The feeling within the club is that their squad is currently well-balanced, when everyone is fit & that any new arrivals would have to be able to greatly strengthen the team.”

Arsenal have suffered something of an injury crisis in recent months, with Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Thomas Partey, Fabio Vieira, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Jesus all missing some games through injury.

Are Arsenal being naive over their depth?

The last two seasons have seen Arsenal falter in their campaigns thanks to a lack of depth and injuries.

In 2022, Arsenal narrowly missed out on a top-four spot as injuries to Partey, Kieran Tierney and Tomiyasu meant that Cedric Soares, Nuno Tavares and Rob Holding had to start during important games in the run-in, and they were undone.

Last season, Arsenal saw their title challenge collapse as William Saliba picked up an injury, and Holding again was not up to the task of stepping in for him.

Arteta has even admitted that Arsenal are short of options at the back, and waiting for a host of injured players to return would be pure naivety.

Timber has been absent after picking up a cruciate ligament injury on his Premier League debut, and relying on him to make an unexpectedly quick recovery and instantly settling to cover for the lack of depth at the back would be a huge risk.

Partey and Tomiyasu are fantastic players on their day, but both of them have constantly picked up injuries in crucial periods, and there now needs to be some proactive thinking from the club to ensure they are not undone by injuries again.
