What Bruno Guimaraes has said about Declan Rice should really excite Arsenal fans

Arsenal are being heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this week.

The Brazilian is currently impressing over at the World Cup with Brazil but that hasn’t stopped Andrea Berta making an approach to sign the midfielder.

As we all know, midfield is high on Mikel Arteta and Berta’s agenda this summer.

While Declan Rice remains key, Martin Zubimendi has been inconsistent and Myles Lewis-Skelly – despite impressing in the centre of the park – remains a young man.

Guimaraes is one of the best midfielders in Europe. And crucially, his past admission about Declan Rice could excite Arsenal fans.

Bruno Guimaraes posted this video about Arsenal in 2022. Do you still want to sign him?

Obviously, since the links to Guimaraes emerged again, the excitement of seeing a Declan Rice and Guimaraes partnership in midfield is obvious.

Rice has been outstanding and we all know how good Guimaraes has been for Newcastle.

Crucially, the Brazilian himself has also spoken previously of how much he rates the Arsenal midfielder.

“I would put Rice at second,” Guimaraes said when ranking the best midfielders in the league back in 2025.

“I think Rice is a player who can defend, who can attack, who can score, who can tackle – he can do everything on the pitch. He’s a top player.”

In terms of an all-action midfield pairing, you’d be hard pushed to find better in the league – or even Europe – if Arsenal get a deal done here.

Clearly, Guimaraes has watched on from afar at how good Rice has been.

Both players can do everything really that a ‘traditional’ central midfield player should be able to do.

Both can score goals, create, are good on deadballs, can defend well and know how to read and control the tempo of a game when needed.

For Arsenal fans, this idea of Rice and Guimaraes is certainly one to tickle the fancy.
