Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has shared his verdict on newly-appointed sporting director Andrea Berta.

Arsenal unveiled Berta after weeks of speculation, seeing the Italian secure his spot as Edu Gaspar’s successor.

For the outsider, the former Atletico Madrid man couldn’t have a simpler job in the summer transfer window, as Mikel Arteta desperately needs a striker.

Soon after Berta’s arrival, it was announced that Arsenal are interested in Viktor Gyokeres, with talk of high-profile targets heightening almost instantly.

Cesc Fabregas shares Andrea Berta verdict

Arteta spoke highly of Berta after the appointment was made, with high hopes ahead of the summer transfer window.

The sporting director signed some top strikers at Atletico Madrid, bringing a strong record in the European market with him.

It’s not only those in Madrid who speak highly of Berta, as Cesc Fabregas shared his view on Arsenal’s new hire ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Real Madrid.

“He is a man with tons of experience. Having done what he’s done at Atletico Madrid, you know, building for many years,” Fabregas told Amazon Prime Video.

“Definitely I could say, I’m not inside the club to understand their thoughts, but a top, top striker.”

The former midfielder, who played in Arsenal’s 2006 win against Real Madrid, proceeded to comment on the Gunners’ links to Gyokeres.

“He [Gyokeres] could be an option. But at least a top club like Arsenal competing for the top level that Mikel wants as he said now. It’s not about being here, it’s about winning.”

Berta already immersed at Arsenal

The summer transfer window will give Berta the chance to bolster the Arsenal squad for the first time, with all eyes on what he can produce.

Fabregas shared glowing praise of the businessman, who is already fully immersed at Colney, as noted on several occasions.

Berta met with Arsenal’s staff as soon as he arrived and was spotted at a training session, watching the players closely.

It’s set to be a fascinating summer for Arsenal, who with Berta’s assistance, will hope to finally build a title-winning squad.
