Edu Gaspar decided to resign from his role as the sporting director of Arsenal.

The Brazilian was an integral part of the Gunners’ setup behind the scenes at the club. He was the one who started Arsenal’s project under Mikel Arteta.

Edu has received an offer from Evangelos Marinakis to lead his group of clubs, and the Arsenal Invincible has decided to take that opportunity.

Arsenal, for their part, did everything they could to keep hold of him.

Edu Gaspar rejected Arsenal’s last-ditch attempt to keep him

Arsenal were very happy with the work Edu was doing behind the scenes at the club.

The 46-year-old had a great relationship with Arteta. Both of them worked together brilliantly and are responsible for all the good things we’ve seen at the Emirates over the last five years.

That is why Arsenal did not want to lose Edu, and once they heard that he was exploring the opportunity Marinakis put in front of him, they decided to fight to keep him.

The Daily Mail reveal that Arsenal actually made an offer to Edu that would’ve handed him wages similar to what he is set to earn in his new role under Marinakis.

However, the challenge of taking up a global position where he would lead a multi-club model was too big an opportunity for him to turn down. That made him desperate to leave.

That’s why he rejected Arsenal’s big offer and resigned from his position on Monday.

Edu’s first task under Evangelos Marinakis is to buy a new club

Edu hasn’t even signed his contract to join and lead Marinakis’ portfolio of clubs, but reports have revealed what his first task will be.

The Greek businessman already owns three football clubs – Nottingham Forest in England, Olympiacos in Greece and Rio Ave in Portugal.

Now, Marinakis wants to purchase another club, this time in Brazil.

Jorge Nicola claims that the option on Edu’s table right now is Vasco da Gama, who currently sit ninth in the Brazilian Serie A table.

Edu’s knowledge of Brazilian football and the market in South America will come in handy for Marinakis, which is probably why he is ready to pay him the big bucks to join him.
