The sudden emergence of Sandro Tonali to Arsenal on deadline day was one of the biggest surprises of the entire window.

Tonali was linked with a move to the Gunners at the last minute but in the end, nothing materialised despite all the noise.

Newcastle, of course, shut things down early and were not happy to see one of their star names being touted about.

Now, with Tonali at least with the Magpies until the summer, the club have some work to do in ensuring that they not only keep hold of Tonali but also stem any more noise of a transfer away.

Indeed, according to Newcastle journalist Craig Hope, officials in the northeast are primed for the next move.

Eddie Howe and the higher ups at Newcastle will not be happy about the Tonali situation at all.

They have stuck by the Italian through his off-field issues and pay him a handsome amount of money as well.

Now, according to Craig Hope (Daily Mail), the club are expecting some sort of conversation soon.

“The agent most closely associated with Tonali, Giuseppe Riso, later denied making contact with the Gunners, and those inside St James’ Park believe him. However, part of his comments did not go unnoticed. ‘We will see around March about Sandro’s valuation, but only if Newcastle decide to open doors,’ he said.

“I understand this has raised eyebrows among some insiders, and has them expecting a conversation with regards Tonali’s future in the coming months.

“Newcastle are relaxed in that they are protected by a contract that runs to 2030, in effect, but there is also a little apprehension at the prospect of the representatives of a player so integral perhaps testing the waters for a summer move.”

With Tonali under contract, Newcastle clearly have the upper-hand here.

But as with any transfer, things can soon spiral and the Toon will want to get a lid on what’s happening with Tonali ASAP.

Arsenal should push hard for Tonali this summer

There are few midfielders in the world who would walk into Arsenal’s team right now but you can make a strong argument to say Sandro Tonali is one of them.

The Italian has been nothing short of superb since arriving at Newcastle and the idea of having both he and Declan Rice in the same midfield is a tremendous thought.

Be honest. Did Unai Emery deserve more time at Arsenal or was he rightly sacked?

While Newcastle won’t want to entertain it, Tonali really is a player Arsenal have to try and push for.

Yes, he will cost a huge sum but Arsenal have shown they’re willing to spend if necessary.

If Arsenal win the league, and can somehow conquer Europe as well, then Tonali himself might well think it’s his next logical career move as well.
