Patrick Dorgu scored a brilliant goal for Manchester United against Arsenal as calls for a handball against him led to nothing from the Gunners.
Dorgu battled through the middle of the park to fire a rocket into the top corner to give United a 2-1 lead.
However, in the build up to the goal, with the ball bouncing around before he got his shot off, there was a hint of Dorgu actually using his arm to bring the ball under control.

A bit of creative excellence and defensive failure…🥲
Dorgu’s hands were around his side and his hip was in play too but at the time, some Arsenal fans and players wanted a decision given to them.
However, when things went to VAR, it was clarified and according to Mike Dean, was the correct call.
Why VAR didn’t give handball against Patrick Dorgu
Arsenal have been on the end of some stinking decisions in the league this season but then again, so have other teams.
Even today, the slide from Harry Maguire that hit his arm and the push from Martinez on Gabriel Jesus were all questionable calls.

However, when it came to Dorgu being penalised, Mike Dean explained that the VAR referee Paul Tierney had got it spot on with their call.
“We’ve just heard from the VAR there, Paul Tierney. It’s a fair comment, it’s inconclusive, you can’t tell. It looks like it’s hit his hip, you can’t guess, the on field decision is correct, goal given,” Dean commented on air at the time.

Arsenal didn’t lose due to poor officiating
Social media is awash with fans suggesting that VAR and the officials essentially screwed the Gunners over.
However, we simply cannot blame that.
Arsenal didn’t create enough chances, they were wasteful in possession, and they also didn’t have any sort of control in the game after United got their first goal through Bryan Mbeumo.
True or false: Amad Diallo is right, Arsenal are too reliant on set-pieces…
Yes, on another day these decisions might go our way but the team and Mikel Arteta cannot use refereeing calls to worm out of what was a poor day at the office.
This is still Arsenal’s title to lose. But laying the blame with refs is a slippery slope to excuses dominating and this needs to be forgotten about and moved on from quickly.
