Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes is closing in on a new contract at the club, with an agreement seemingly close over an extension.

The defender has grown into a key player in the backline for the Gunners in the years since his transfer switch from LOSC Lille.

Gabriel Magalhaes has received praise this season after standing out with some of his performances, which included some huge defensive displays, as well as a few goals from set-pieces.

With those big displays for Arsenal, sporting director Andrea Berta has moved quickly to ensure he will stay at the club in the long term.

Gabriel Magalhaes set to extend Arsenal contract until 2030 with agreement close

Gabriel Magalhaes has been crucial for Arsenal this season, with his injury late in the campaign coming as a huge blow.

While he has impressed, Gabriel enters the final two years of his contract, putting some pressure on the Gunners to get a deal over the line or risk losing him.

Berta has been in talks with Gabriel’s camp over a new contract, with those talks edging towards a close in the near future.

That’s because, according to BBC Sport, Arsenal are in advanced talks with the centre-back, with an agreement believed to be close.

It will be a huge boost to the North London side, who will want to wrap the deal up soon before looking towards other deals.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the new contract is set to be until 2030, adding another three years on top of his existing deal.

There is still plenty of work for Berta to do, though, not just with Gabriel.

Arsenal still have plenty of contract work to do

It’s not just Gabriel who needs a new contract sorted at Arsenal, with the squad currently featuring plenty of stars nearing the end of their deals.

Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Leandro Trossard all have just one year remaining on their deal, meaning they face potential exits as free agents.

Beyond them, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have two years remaining on their contracts, alongside Gabriel.

It means that, on top of potential transfers, Berta has work to do in keeping the current squad together.
