Mikel Arteta is about to complete six years as the Arsenal boss.
The Spaniard was appointed in December 2019, initially as their head coach. Then, less than a year later, he was officially named as their manager.
Arteta has completely transformed Arsenal. He has turned an average team into one of the best in the world and is on the verge of winning the big trophies.
Most Arsenal fans are happy with Arteta and cannot imagine a future without him. However, the 43-year-old isn’t planning to stay forever.

Mikel Arteta does not plan on completing 10 years at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is currently the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League.
Only Pep Guardiola has been in the job longer, and there are rumours that the Manchester City boss could be on his way out at the end of this season.
There are no such fears about Arteta’s immediate future, but people close to him don’t envisage seeing him stay at Arsenal for a long, long time.
The Athletic have revealed that the Gunners boss has never ‘sought to be a long-standing manager in the vein of Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson’.
In fact, sources close to him don’t even think he will complete 10 years at Arsenal, unlike his mentor Guardiola at Manchester City.
That means Arteta is planning to leave Arsenal before December 2029.

Arsenal need to secure Mikel Arteta’s future ASAP
Arteta’s current contract at Arsenal expires in the summer of 2027.
The Gunners, led by Andrea Berta, need to offer him a new deal as soon as possible to secure his future at least until 2029.
David Ornstein once claimed that the biggest clubs in the world will make offers to Arteta if he becomes available, and that is no surprise whatsoever.

With Guardiola potentially leaving Manchester City next year, the last thing Arsenal would want is to see their title rivals make a move for Arteta, who was their assistant manager before he moved to North London.
The sooner Arsenal tie down Arteta to a new deal, the better it will be for everyone at the club.
