Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s work has been outstanding since he returned to his old club in December 2019, and he has now signed a new contract.

Arsenal have tied Arteta down to a new deal for the next three years after his impressive work helped rebuild the squad into one which is challenging at the top of the Premier League.

Arteta and Edu Gaspar built a young squad using smart recruitment, and Arsenal broke several club records last season, as they scored more and conceded less than in any other Premier League season.

However, Arsenal still fell just short of the Premier League title, and it is now 20 years since Arsene Wenger triumphed with the Invincibles.

Arteta has still done a brilliant job despite the presence of Manchester City, and his win percentage ranks remarkably well amongst previous Arsenal managers.

Mikel Arteta has a higher win rate than any other Arsenal manager

Despite the turbulent first two years, Arteta now has a higher win percentage than any other manager in Arsenal’s Premier League history, including the legendary Wenger.

Of all managers to take charge of 50 or more games, Arteta’s win percentage of 59% is higher than anyone else’s, as he has won 139 of his 235 games across all competitions.

Wenger is in second place, with a win rate of 57%, having won 715 of his 1234 games in charge.

Unai Emery is third on 55%, with 43 wins from 78 games, whilst George Graham recorded a 46% win rate, with 196 victories in 419 matches.

Mikel Arteta now needs to add trophies to become an Arsenal legend

Wenger won three Premier League titles, whilst Graham triumphed in the First Division on two occasions, writing themselves into Arsenal history.

Arteta has been excellent as Arsenal manager, but for his name to be up there with the greats, he will need to bring major trophies back to North London after a long absence.

He did win one FA Cup, but over the course of his tenure, Arteta now has the chance to become a legend at the club, where he is already a hugely popular figure.

Arteta won two FA Cups as a captain, but his time as a manager has made more of an impact at the club despite a few strong campaigns in the latter years of his playing career.
